Who can attend?
Although this is an open session, artists must contact Gene Dillard and discuss their interest and be persuasive of their commitment to benefiting from participating with the group. All skill levels are welcome, but prior experience or study will be important to benefit from the sessions.
What are sessions like?
Thursday Night Live artists paint or draw from a live posed model that is clothed in typical attire or dressed as colorful characters. The sessions are comprised of one single pose per evening. Chairs and small TV tables are provided, but it is recommended that artist bring a portable easel if they need to use one.
What time and where are the sessions?
The sessions are every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 10:00 pm. The group assembles in the Plano Art Association Gallery in Historic Downtown Plano.
Address: 1013 15th Place # 105, Plano 75074. The gallery is adjacent to the Plano Downtown DART station.
Parking can be a bit of a challenge. The most predictably available parking is in the DART parking lot next to the station. The gallery is just a few steps across the tracks from that lot. Street parking is sometimes available and there is a covered parking garage a shot block away. (See map for details)
A fee of $20 is required of each artist. These fees are collected to pay for the model and rent for the gallery space each week.
Each Tuesday evening an email will be sent out detailing the model selected for the upcoming Thursday session. The model will also be announced on the Thursday Night Live Facebook page.
Our Monthly Meeting is the 4th Tues. of the Month. Remember to bring an art piece — a fresh one is good, one you are working on — in progress or finished. Artists are eligible for the Asel Art award for the monthly Art Share. Art Share begins at 6:15 and the Demo/Artist is from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
For the demo, Gene will demonstrate painting a portrait from a live model. He will talk through the processes of achieving a likeness,
mixing colors, and techniques for capturing the character of the subject.
